Dry Ice

We are engaged in offering the quality Dry Ice that is commonly used for packaged items that needs to remain cold or frozen. It is a solid carbon dioxide also known as Carbon Dioxide Dry ice that can easily be handled by using insulated gloves. Acknowledged for the pure form, it changes directly from solid to gas in normal atmospheric conditions. The frozen dry ice is used in theater production for creating the effect of dense fog, for making ice cream and it is also used as bait to trap mosquitoes and other insects.

We are a leading supplier of high quality Dry Ice Pellets. It is frozen carbon dioxide, which is a normal part of our earth's atmosphere. It can be easily handled using insulated gloves. It got the name “dry ice” as it changes directly from a solid to a gas through sublimation, in normal atmospheric conditions without going through a wet liquid stage. At a normal rate dry ice sublimates at a rate of five to ten pounds every 24 hours in a typical ice chest. To cut down the sublimation rate, it is ideal to bring in an ice chest or some other insulated container to hold the Frozen Dry Ice. It sublimates at a faster rate than the regular ice melts. Frozen Dry Ice provides more than twice the cooling energy per pound of weight and three times the cooling energy per volume than regular water ice (H2O).

Applications:

Being at a very low temperature, Dry Ice finds application for a wide range of purposes. Some of these are enlisted below:

  • It is commonly used to package items that need to remain cold or frozen, such as ice cream, without the use of mechanical cooling
  • In medicine it was used to freeze warts to make removal easier, although that application is now done with the use of liquid nitrogen
  • In the construction industry it is used to loosen floor tiles by shrinking and cracking them, as well as to freeze water in valveless pipes to allow repair
  • In laboratories, slurry of dry ice in an organic solvent is a useful freezing mixture for cold chemical reactions
  • It can be used to flash freeze food. It is used commercially to flash freeze tuna for sushi
  • It can also be used to flash-freeze laboratory biological samples
  • It can be used to carbonate beverages. An interesting fact is that carbonation can even happen accidentally when dry ice is sublimating near open containers
  • Used as bait to trap mosquitoes and other insects
  • It can be used in theatre productions in order to create the effect of dense fog. When dry ice is placed in water, it accelerates the sublimation rate thus creating low-sinking dense clouds of fog (smoke like) are created. This is used in fog machines at theaters, discothèques, haunted houses, and nightclubs for dramatic effects.
  • It is also used in cloud seeding which is the process of altering cloud precipitation
  • To save shipping weight and extend the cooling energy of water ice, it is often mixed with regular ice
  • When made on the spot from liquid CO2, the resultant dry ice snow is packed in the top of a shipping container for providing extended cooling without electrical refrigeration equipment and connections
  • It is often used by commercial shippers of perishables for non frozen goods
  • Owing to its cold temperature 109.3°F or -78.5°C, it is used for freezing and keeping things frozen

Safety:

Frozen dry ice through cold burns can cause severe skin damage. It is extremely dangerous as it produces a lot of fog, which makes it hard to locate the dry ice exactly. It can sublimate into large quantities of carbon dioxide gas, thus displacing oxygen-containing air and posing a danger of asphyxiation. Therefore, it should only be exposed to open air in a well-ventilated environment. As frozen dry ice contains contaminants thus it is unfit for applications where it comes into direct contact with eatables. Using dry ice as ice cubes to cool a drink also carries the danger of swallowing pieces of dry ice which can lead to a life-threatening condition.
